This week, Spring Creek Middle School held its annual Field of Flags assembly to honor our nation's Veterans. The event brought together 8th grade students, community members and special guests in a meaningful celebration during Veterans Day week.
This year’s program featured several special guests. Students welcomed the Battle Born Youth Challenge Academy (BBYCA), whose cadets led a Posting of the Colors and performed a precision drill ceremony.

The assembly also included a powerful presentation from Christina Bradford, a Navy Veteran of the War in Afghanistan, and Jim Hill, a Navy Vietnam Veteran, VFW Chaplain, and our 2025 Veterans Day Grand Marshal. Representing VFW Post 2350, they taught students about the history and meaning of the U.S. flag—covering its design, symbolism, care and the stories behind its evolution.

After the presentation, BBYCA cadets raised the school’s new American flag in a solemn ceremony. This flag was donated by SCMS teacher Mrs. Randalyn Kempf in memory of her husband, U.S. Army Veteran Brandon Kempf.
To close the event, students placed miniature flags in the Field of Flags—each one a tribute of gratitude and remembrance.
This year’s assembly helped students reflect on the meaning of service and sacrifice. A heartfelt thank-you to the Battle Born Youth Challenge Academy, Christina Bradford, Jim Hill, the VFW and Mrs. Kempf for making this experience unforgettable.
